Located on the sidewalk in front of 111. S Broadway in downtown Edmond, this sculpture is bronze. The figure is sitting on a square pillar about 18 inches high. The full piece is approximately 40 inches tall.
At the time of posting, a bronze plaque has not yet been placed. The artist’s name is molded on the back of the pillar and reads Gary Lee Price c.2011. This piece is the 13th in a presentation of 250 copies.
As I looked at this piece, I first thought it was of a boy child, but as I study it further, I believe the figure is a young woman. The facial features appear more adult. She is dressed in jeans with rolled cuffs, a T-shirt and jacket, and laced boots. On her head is a vintage leather aviator’s cap with goggles. Her left foot is pulled up and resting on the pillar she is sitting on. In her right hand she is holding a wide-winged glider airplane. She has a dreamy expression on her face as if she is soaring among the clouds herself, as she looks up into the sky.
This is a very expressive sculpture and one you will enjoy.
