Collection: Publicly Owned
Olympic and Paralympic Strength

Sponsor: Edmond Visual Arts Commission partnered with University of Central Oklahoma

This bronze sculpture by artist, Jon D. Hair, stands eight feet high, on a three-tiered circular base. It is an open globe of the earth with the latitude and longitude lines and continents solid. The earth is being held up on the backs of four athletes who represent the diversity in athleticism. One is African American, with a Olympic medal around his neck. A second athlete is female, wearing a medal from the Pan Am Games. A third represents a paralympian and he is wearing a medal from the International Paralympic Committee games. The fourth athlete, wearing sandals and a head sash is an ancient Greek representing the initial Olympic movement. This is a powerful sculpture making a strong statement.
