    Sponsor: Purchased by Central Edmond Urban Board before the Edmond Visual Arts Commission was formed Nesting is one of many sculptures in Downtown Edmond, many placed in conjunction with the Edmond Visual Arts Commission. A young girl straddles her mother’s lap, sleeping on the woman’s chest. The woman has her arms around the young girl’s back, supporting her, while retaining hold of a book they had been reading. The woman’s head rests gently on the top of the young girl’s head. The girl’s head is turned to her right as she sleeps on her mother’s chest. The two figures sit in the middle of a bench.

    New Heights of Knowledge - Far Away Places

    Sponsor: Edmond Visual Arts Commission partnered with Edmond Historic Preservation Trust Gary Lee Price’s two “New Heights of Knowledge” sculptures stand at the northwest corner of the Territorial Schoolhouse, the earliest one-room schoolhouse constructed in Oklahoma Territory in 1889. This sculpture commemorates the school’s 125th anniversary. Gary Lee Price, a sculptor who lives in Utah, has created hundreds of pieces of outdoor sculpture placed throughout the world, with many gracing locations in Edmond. This bronze piece stands five feet high and depicts a young girl of about ten, sitting atop a stack of fourteen books. She is reading a large open book titled “Art”. She is dressed in pants and a ‘hoodie’ shirt, with her legs crossed at the ankles.

This bronze piece stands seven feet high and depicts a young boy of about twelve, sitting atop a stack of fifteen books. Titles are engraved on the books, such as “U-2” and “Copyright Law”. The boy is holding an open book in his lap, and has his right leg across his left knee. He is dressed in a shirt and pants, with his sleeves rolled up. He is gazing up and away, looking at a future of his own imagination

    Sponsor: Edmond Visual Arts Commission partnered with John Ross Elementary PTO “Nighthawk” is a life sized bronze sculpture of a chicken hawk, sculpted by Paul Rhymer, known for his work with animals and birds. We all know the well-known theme from the musical “Oklahoma!” – Hawks making lazy circles in the sky…. John Ross Elementary has a before and after school activities program called Nighthawk Hangout.This sculpture was purchased by the John Ross Elementary PTO in commemoration of their 25 years of service to the school district. The hawk is in the process of landing, with its wings unfurled up and back, and its claws stretched out to make contact with the ground. His body is leaning to the right, as he swoops down to land.
