BalletKids Club

Free ; Student Showcase Opportunities ; Workshops & Classes (Out of School)

Oklahoma City Ballet created BalletKids Club in order to provide underserved youth the opportunity to attend a professional ballet performance for FREE! We partner with non-profit organizations serving youth in the community to invite youth who would not otherwise have the resources to see a live performance from Oklahoma City Ballet. For many BalletKids Club participants, this is their first exposure to live performing art and their experience will help instill a love for the arts for many years to come. APPLICATION PROCESS Interested organizations must fill out the BalletKids Club Application Form. We will notify you via email when your application has been approved, and we will deliver tickets to your organization. Closer to the time of the performance, we will send a Theater Etiquette information sheet regarding what to expect the day of the performance, as well as information on the ballet and the choreographers. Oklahoma City Ballet does require that the children be chaperoned by one adult for every ten children. Please be sure to include the number of chaperones in your ticket number request!

Be My Buddy Music Theatre Class

Be My Buddy Music Theatre Class is designed for preschool-elementary aged children with disabilities. Each student is paired with a middle school/ high school aged Buddy/experienced Sooner Theatre Student . The class will cover musical theatre performance foundations. Students will learn song and dance routines and participate in acting and public speaking exercises. By including buddies in the classroom, each student receives additional support from peers to build confidence in their performance abilities. This class will perform in the Special Olympics, Encore Dance competition, and The Studio Showcase.

Broadway Babies I

A lively introduction to musical theatre that integrates games, musical activities, singing, choreography and theatre terms into a fun learning experience. Participants must be potty-trained.

Broadway Kids

As ambassadors of the theatre, these classes will perform at various community and civic events throughout the year, including festivals, parades, fairs and other community events. Performers must be available to perform at outside events to participate in these troupes. BY AUDITION ONLY.

Canterbury Youth Voices

In its 20th year, the Canterbury Youth Voices (CYV) of Canterbury Voices is a curricular and performance-based youth choral program which stresses artistic and personal excellence by enhancing the singing skills and musical literacy of children through choral music training and performance opportunities. Children attending public, private and parochial schools, as well as those who are home-schooled, make new friends while experiencing the excitement of music in a supportive and nurturing environment. CYV values its unique role in central Oklahoma by actively seeking and supporting those young people of all races, ethnicities, and economic status who demonstrate a commitment to better themselves, their schools and communities through training as an auditioned youth singer in the CYV program. CYV offers several choruses, by audition, for children of all backgrounds. Apprentice Choir (grade range 2-6) focuses on building vocal techniques and expanding musical literacy. Chorale (grade ranges 7-12) works to refine and expand musical and vocal skills while learning more sophisticated music.

Classics for Kids

Introducing elementary school students to the world of Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and the love of theatre; Classics for Kids presents a fun and informative 5-play series sure to educate and inspire! PLAY OUTLINES FOR CLASSICS FOR KIDS Plays available individually or as part of a series. All plays include audience participation. Play #1 | “Professor Spillsby Digs into Shakespeare” | available fall 2019 Professor Spillsby, a brilliantly lovable, absent-minded professor, meets ‘The Juggling Fiends,’ a rowdy troupe of Shakespeare performers, on their way to the Riverbottom Shakespearean Festival. Using Shakespeare’s original text, including excerpts from Macbeth, we learn the best way to experience Shakespeare is to perform it! Play #2 | “Professor Spillsby & the Riverbottom Shakespeare Festival!” | available spring 2020 Our heroes find themselves at ‘The Riverbottom Shakespeare Festival’ prepping for their debut, when the professor decides to check out the neighboring science fair. Here we meet Mrs. Crabtree and her sidekick, Mrs. Stump who cause all kinds of mayhem, and leave our players with a mystery to solve…Includes excerpts from Henry V, The Tempest, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Play #3 | “Professor Spillsby Hunts for Treasure!” | available fall 2020 Our heroes find themselves in Italy this time, on the trail of “The Lost Treasure of Juliet!” Journey with our heroes to some of Italy’s greatest cities and get help from many of Shakespeare’s most famous female characters from Romeo & Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, and The Taming of the Shrew. This play is sure to fire the adventurous imagination of girls and boys alike! Play #4 | “Professor Spillsby Goes Back In Time” | available spring 2021 Our intrepid heroes go back in time to meet none other than Jane Austen herself! All things that go around truly do come around in this zany time-travelling adventure. Includes excerpts from Jane Austen’s novels and letters. Play #5 | “Professor Spillsby takes a vacation!” | available fall 2021 Our heroes finally get a bit of rest…or do they!? Join us as we take to adventure on the high seas, only to find that there is more to the idea of relaxing than meets the eye!

Put on those dancin’ shoes and hit the stage with us as we learn choreography to some of Broadway’s biggest hits. We’ll work on gross motor skills and improving strength and balance.

Hip Hop I

Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin’, locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. While no previous training is required, classes will use basic body isolations found in other technique classes.

Jr Production - Disney's Mary Poppins Jr.

All participants will learn music, dialogue and choreography necessary to put on a full-scale production of Disney’s Mary Poppins JR. PeeWee and JR production will continue to meet after the production dates of those shows to prepare for Showcase. SR Production will no longer meet following the show, however for High School students with approval and paid tuition, it will be replaced by ENSEMBLE for Showcase and will have additional rehearsals.

Kaleidoscope

A kaleidoscope is defined as a cylinder with mirrors containing loose, colored objects such as beads or pebbles or bits of glass. As the viewer looks into one end, light entering the other end creates a colorful pattern, due to the reflection off the mirrors. The word is derived from the ancient Greek words Kalos (meaning beautiful), Eidos (that which is seen, form or shape) and Skopeo (to look to, or to examine.) Thus, Kaleidoscope literally means “observation of beautiful forms.” There couldn’t be a more perfect name for what we hope to achieve. The KidsAlive! Kaleidoscope brings together children of ALL abilities. Our experienced young performers (our mirrors) and children with special needs (our gems) pair up to create a music theater experience with beautiful patterns and shapes that we couldn’t see without the collaboration of the two.

Let's ACT OUT (HOMESCHOOL Specific)

Want to learn to act? What better way than to immerse yourself into non -stop acting activities. Students will participate in acting exercises, improv games and more plus rehearse numerous monologues, duets, as well as scene work with partners. This class will focus on scene work from comedic material as well as classic literature and even Shakespeare! Students will be given the opportunity to perform a Halloween, Valentines and a special performance on May 5, 2020. A $35 materials fee for this class is due at enrollment.

Let's ACT OUT!

Want to learn to act? What better way than to immerse yourself into non-stop acting activities. This class will focus on scene work from comedic material as well as classic literature and even Shakespeare! Students will be given the opportunity to perform a Halloween, Valentines and we’ll end the year with an ACTING SHOWCASE performance on May 5, 2020. A $35 materials fee for this class is due at enrollment.

MASTER CLASS: Anastasia

Cast members from the national touring companies of Broadway and touring hits will present special master classes, and students will have the opportunity to learn and perform songs and choreography from the shows! During Broadway Connection Master Classes, students learn to stand out in front of directors, choreographers and professors when auditioning for top universities or the Broadway role of their dreams. Each class ends with a Broadway Connection Q & A where students ask questions about education, auditions, Broadway shows and more. Whether polishing dance technique or perfecting triple threat skills, students leave their Broadway Connection class completely inspired, energized and focused to continue training hard and reach new heights! Master classes are designed for intermediate/advanced students ages 10 and above.

Musical Theatre II

Students will gain a deeper understanding of the musical theatre discipline. Emphasis will be on the methods of musical theatre: vocalization, dancing, expressing a song, working with a director, choreographer and learning theatre and dance terminology. These classes typically serve as a prerequisite to our production classes. This class will perform as part of The Sooner Theatre Showcase, May 1-3, 2020. A $45 Showcase production fee is also due at enrollment for this class.

PeeWee Production (Disney's Winnie the Pooh KIDS!)

Student Showcase Opportunities ; Workshops & Classes (Out of School)

Date: Saturday, February 29, 2020 (two performances) All participants will learn music, dialogue and choreography necessary to put on a small production of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh KIDS. All students enrolled in a Production Class will also be required to take an approved technique or Ambassador class, which meet through April and perform in Showcase, May 1-3, 2020. There will also be a $75 production fee assessed at enrollment in addition to tuition. All students must be available for rehearsals/class and performance dates. Additional rehearsals may be called as needed. All students enrolled in a Production class are required to also take an approved technique class.

Shakespeare for Dinner

Student Showcase Opportunities ; Workshops & Classes (Out of School)

This class will not only take the fear out of Shakespeare but give students the opportunity to study other literary greats. Students will study figurative language as well as the human emotion found in these classic pieces of literature. They will gain a better understanding of classic acting style and how it relates to modern material. The class will end in a Shakespearean Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre performance at The Studio Performance Space, Wednesday, May 6, 2020. A $45 materials fee for this class is due at enrollment.

Show Troupe

Ambassador Performance Troupe participants are selected by audition or director’s recommendation. As ambassadors of the theatre, these classes will perform at various community and civic events throughout the year, including festivals, parades, fairs and other community events. Performers must be available to perform at outside events to participate in these troupes. This class will perform as part of The Sooner Theatre Showcase, May 1-3, 2020. A $65 Showcase production fee is also due at enrollment for this class. Ambassador Performance Troupes count towards technique requirement of all production classes.

Tap I

Tap is a comprehensive study of American tap dance, including terminology and technique. Emphasis is placed on precision in sound, rhythm, movement, gesture, and expression. This class will perform as part of The Sooner Theatre Showcase, May 1-3, 2020. A $45 Showcase production fee is also due at enrollment for this class.

Tap II

Tap is a comprehensive study of American tap dance, including terminology and technique. Emphasis is placed on precision in sound, rhythm, movement, gesture, and expression.
