A long-lost first draft of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic The Pirates of Penzance, which debuted in New York in 1879, is discovered and brought to life 140 years later in what may have been its earlier, stranger form: a dark comedy with most of the same characters- including Major-General Stanley, a retired zombie hunter- but a slightly different plot.
